Our existence is transient. So, what do we have to say when our time comes? Scratch that, what do we tell ourselves at the end of each day? Are we satisfied with the results of our actions at the end of the day? Barely, I’d say, for most of us. Because productivity is measured by what is visible or tangible, but I will try and change your minds today. How about you plan for a day that you do nothing totally? A day to free your mind and meditate? No visible or tangible results of course but the peace you get is richer than anything that you could put a price on.
The lyrics to this song talk of a satisfied end where everything comes down to, ‘whatever you did, how do you feel about it?’ Well, simply and clearly, I did it my way. Many times, we fall, we make wrong choices and decisions that give us lessons we can’t trade for anything on earth. It might cause us disappointment and anguish and sometimes self-loathing because the society does not validate our actions, because the society has a ‘particular way’ of doing things and any wrong done cannot be erased and remains a scar and a point of reference for the rest of our lives. However, that is just other people’s way of looking at you, but as long as you have learnt from your choices and did it your way, then you should be proud of yourself.
No one, unless you are a narcissist can criticize you worse than you do yourself. There are times you might think you ‘bit off more than you could chew,’ because you think to yourself that you are not good enough. So, you end up giving up and letting go. Well, if you are waiting for someone, anyone to tell you how to do it, you are as good as lost. There isn’t a better way to do anything than to do it on your own way.
So, were you planning to take a risk? Invest in that business idea you’ve had for the longest time? Tell your crush you loved them? I would say, do it, if that’s what you feel you should do. Though the deals may go wrong, at least at the end of the day you would have done it your way.
Our happiness as well as our sadness are both equally temporary, although we try to stretch out our happiness a little and shrink down the sadness as hard as possible. It is okay to do all that, only, we let the sadness weigh us down and curse our existence. If only we considered what is important for just us, then face it all head on, we find the problems we have been avoiding so amusing and so little.
“for what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught.” This line of the lyrics explains my entire point. Before anything, you had nothing and no one but yourself. Through it all, people have come your way and gone. At the end of the day, again, it is just you. Therefore, there is no better way of doing anything other than your way because you are the only constant in your life. If at the end of the day you wouldn’t have achieved as much as you had planned, do not worry, you did the best you could and that was your way.

Ever heard a song and wondered how much the songwriter knows about you? Music speaks to us through lyrics (well, including Carlos Santana’s guitar)...More!
